What is augmented reality?
Video games have entertained children and adults alike for decades since the release of arcade games in the 70’s. Mostly limited to expensive game consoles, computer graphics have become much more advanced since then where current games with the help of new technology, consistently push the barriers of photorealism. First there was virtual reality (VR), a technology that generates images and sounds so realistically, users are transported to alternative settings that can immerse them in a “reality” of their own choosing. Then came augmented reality, augmented reality (AR) provides an experience of one’s actual environment with some elements of that environment augmented by computer-generated sensory input, such as sound, video, graphics, or location data. While VR creates a simulated immersive world, AR technology adds new layers of information to what is real effectively blurring the line between what is real and what is computer generated.
